No mas.

I’ve spent a nice chunk of time these past few months railing at … hmm, who have I left out? So having said my piece, time maybe to lay down our guns for a bit–a day or two, anyway–and simply reflect on the passing of one particularly long, dark night.  So this one’s for all of us, despite our differences: for Obama’s terrific campaign staff and fieldworkers and supporters, for Ralph Nader and the loyal opposition, for Hillary and those who, god help them, love her; for all the prospective first term Congressional reps who are still moved by something pure, and for all the old hacks like Barney Frank and Joe BIden who maybe have more than a spark of the same burning too. And for everyone who is going to turn out in force tomorrow and say: NO MAS.

As the song goes: We are not afraid.  Most of all, this one is for everyone who wasn’t afraid–wasn’t afraid of Osama or Saddam, or Ashcroft or Cheney, or what anyone thought back in 2002 and 2003 when speaking out and speaking true wasn’t so easy–man, you could get to feeling really alone pretty damn quick, and I do mean alone–everyone who believed that if they didn’t shut up, maybe someday somehow the rest of the country would come ’round. And, well … whaddya know? Really, who woulda thunk it?

God willing, we’re going to celebrate Thanksgiving early. It’s still a long, long road to hoe, and none of us are going to live to be crossing any Jordan RIvers but, yeah, deep in my heart, I still believe….
